San Francisco's Friction Quartet perform composer Geoffrey Gordon's ABACISCUS, for string quartet, a work inspired by mosaics found primarily in the Villa Romana del Casale and the Piazza Vittoria de Palermo in Sicily which date from the early 4th century. (The fourth movement is inspired by a mosaic discovered near the Daphni Monastery in Athens, circa 1100 AD.)
